Alec has done a wonderful job with the gable end of our Victorian cottage! From preparing the site to be rendered, plus the final render with Harling Coat.
The entire process has to be slow. There is little point in rushing a job such as this!
Alec and his workmate were able to remove the old cement render in about two days, this stuff was near.y two inches thick in places, but Alec took his time in ensuring that the bricks underneath were properly preserved.
After several days of allowing the brickwork to dry, (it was literally sopping wet), the smooth undercoat was carefully applied and allowed to dry. My windows were fully protected, as was my front door during this process! The worksite was kept clean, and if Alec or his workmate ate needed to use the bathroom facilities, they asked politely and removed their footwear prior to entry. Alec advised us he needed to put hessian over the undercoat, this needed to be kept moist to allow the undercoat to cure and prevent the wind from drying the undercoat out…this could lead to cracking if it dried too quickly.. After a week or two, it was time for the Harling coat to be applied. Alec remained professional throughout. I am sure he had fun climbing the scaffolding and seeing the countryside views from up high! He worked solidy to get this job done for us a swiftly as possible. We cannot thank Alec enough for the fine work he has done. We have noticed a huge improvement in the level of dampness within the cottage. Prior to having this work done, the hygrometer was sitting at around the 75-80% mark on a daily basis, even with a dehumidifier working! After the work had been completed, we have noticed that the house now sits between 50-65%! Well done Alec. Thank you and your workmate for all of your hard efforts it is very much appreciated.★★★★★
We are thrilled with the work that Alec has done in our home, we instructed Alec to replaster an external stone wall in Lime plaster. We really had no idea what we wanted other than a few Pinterest images to draw inspiration from, Alec patiently worked with us, applying plaster and cutting back as we found the shape we wanted. Extremely tidy and conscientious, very reluctant to step outside his working area with his work boots on.
It was truly a pleasure to work with Alec, he is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his profession, particularly the heritage side.
We would not hesitate in working with Alec again and highly recommend him.
