Three-Coat Lime Work in Congleton – Clean Lines, Solid Craft

We recently wrapped up a nice little job over in Congleton, working on a traditional three-coat lime finish with some custom detailing. The customer had a clear vision for the space, and it was our job to bring it to life – properly and with care.

To get things right from the start, I set up firm rules and horsed up a profile to keep the angles crisp and consistent across the room. That’s especially important on corners and window returns – you want those lines to flow naturally and feel solid when you look and run your hand along them. No wonky edges here.

The ceilings were in poor shape, so I repaired them using plasterboard and skimmed over with gypsum – a practical and clean solution, especially when dealing with patchy lath or damaged areas. Once that was sorted, we moved onto the walls.

We dabbed Fireline plasterboard to the chimney breast for added fire resistance, making sure the surface was sound before we moved on to plastering. In the fireplace opening, we fixed cement boards to handle the heat from the log burner – a must for both safety and durability.

The customer designed the final shape and look of the plaster – we discussed details in depth and tailored the build to their style. That’s one of the best parts of lime work: it can be traditional or bespoke, and still breathe well and age beautifully.

I also fixed down limestone sills to complete the window reveals – solid, clean lines that matched the feel of the rest of the work. We always aim for that balance between form and function.

Another solid job with traditional materials, finished the right way.

If you’ve got a project in mind around Macclesfield, Congleton or the surrounding areas – and you want that detail and durability – give us a shout.
