Introduction to Ayres Plastering - YouTube
Welcome to Ayres Plastering! I'm Alec, a passionate plasterer with a decade of experience in the craft. My journey began at The Manchester College under the expert guidance of my mentor, Colin Davies, who introduced me to the art of fibrous plastering. This initial spark led me to compete in SkillBuild under Colin's tutelage and later, to a comprehensive two-year apprenticeship with Cheshire Plastering, working alongside Rick Fitton and James Brewer.
Having honed my skills, I ventured into entrepreneurship with APPS Plastering, a venture that still boasts glowing reviews. However, my love for traditional plastering called me back. I've since immersed myself in various decorative courses with esteemed instructors like Sean Wheatley and Keith Langton, thanks to Industrial Plasters, and a memorable pargeting course by Bill Sargent. My commitment to the craft is further evidenced by my Level 3 training in traditional plastering from the TYWI Centre in South Wales.
Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with renowned plasterers across the country, including Alan Arbuthnot, Charlie Short, and Aidy Wintergills. My knowledge is also enriched by literature, with William Millar's "Plastering Plain and Decorative" and Verral's "The Modern Plasterer" being key influences.
As I continue my career, my passion for traditional buildings remains undimmed. My aspiration is to earn the title of Master Plasterer, and I am committed to ongoing learning under the tutelage of more great plasterers. For me, the journey of learning never stops, and I bring this dedication to every project at Ayres Plastering.
